Are Contacts Right for You?

Contact lenses are a popular choice for vision correction, but their suitability depends on several factors. These include existing eye conditions, allergies, exposure to dusty environments, and your lifestyle.

Our experienced optometrists will work with you to determine the most appropriate vision correction solution that aligns with your lifestyle and eye health.

Scleral Contacts for Keratoconus & Dry Eye

Scleral contacts are a special type of lens designed to address conditions like keratoconus and severe dry eye

These lenses are larger than traditional contacts, allowing them to rest on the sclera (or whites) of your eyes. This size allows the center of the lens to “vault” over your cornea, correcting your vision while still being comfortable for those living with keratoconus or dry eye.

Orthokeratology Contacts for Myopia Control

Orthokeratology, or ortho-k, contact lenses offer an innovative approach to myopia control for children.

These contacts are worn overnight while your child sleeps. During this time, the lenses gently reshape the cornea to provide clear vision during the day without the need for glasses or daytime contacts. Studies have shown that these contacts offer an effective strategy for managing myopia development.

Other Specialty Contacts

With the help of modern lens-fitting technologies and techniques, we can help fit a range of other specialty contacts. The type of contacts we recommend will depend on your unique needs. At Maui Optix, we can fit a range of lenses, including those that can address refractive errors and cornea-specific conditions.

Multifocal Contacts

Multifocal contacts can correct both near and distance vision. These lenses provide clear vision at all distances, giving you the freedom to enjoy life without switching between different eyewear.

Reverse geometry lenses are a specialty contact lens option that can provide improved visual comfort for those with certain corneal conditions. They work by reversing the typical lens shape to better fit the eye, enhancing comfort and visual clarity.

Contact Lens Fitting Technologies

Maui Optix is committed to using modern technology to provide you with comfortable-fitting contact lenses.

Corneal Topographer

A corneal topographer is a specialized diagnostic tool used to measure the curvature and shape of the cornea.

This map can help provide a better understanding of the eye and is often used to help diagnose refractive errors or cornea-specific conditions, as well as fit contact lenses.

Keratography

A keratographer is a specialized tool that helps provide an accurate measurement of the curvature of the cornea.

It uses a combination of optics and computer software to create a 3D map of the cornea’s surface, which can then be used to diagnose refractive errors or specific corneal conditions.

Proper Contact Lens Care & Storage

It’s essential to take proper care of your contact lenses.

When we prescribe you with contacts, we’ll walk you through a detailed process on how to correctly care for and store your contact lenses.

Don’t worry, though. Taking care of your contacts is a simple process, and doing it correctly can help extend the lifespan of multi-day lenses while reducing the risk of developing complications from wearing contacts.

Using & Cleaning Your Lenses

  • Always wash your hands thoroughly before handling your lenses.
  • Use the recommended solution to rub and rinse your lenses.
  • Avoid using water or saliva for cleaning.
  • Adhere to the replacement schedule advised by your optometrist for optimal lens health.
  • Always use a clean lens case and replace it at least every 3 months.
  • Fill the case with fresh contact solution daily.
  • Ensure your lenses are fully submerged in solution during storage.
  • Store the case in a clean, dry place at room temperature.
